Of Mice And Men

“Tell about how its gunna be George, tell about the rabbits,” is what Lennie would say to George throughout the book. He was talking about going to live off the fatta the land, in a little cabin in the woods, having nobody to answer to but them selves, he’s talking about their “American Dream.” The American dream is desired by many, but it is very rare to accomplish it, you might get close but then it might be over, the theme of a historical fiction book, “Of Mice And Men” by John Steinbeck. The theme is important because it is good to have dreams, but you need to know that they can disappear very easily. In the beginning of the book Lennie gets into trouble in Weed, so him and George take off and hide. Then they get a job at this ranch, they start working there. George and Lennie talk about the dream and Candy, an older man with no arm, says he’d like to join them and he would help buy the place. So now they’re close to their dream until Lennie kills Curley’s wife. This forces George to shoot Lennie so he won’t be tortured by Curley.

George and Lennie are good friends, they travel with each other, George keeps Lennie out of trouble and Lennie keeps George company. George is a smart guy, he is a hard worker, but most of all a good friend. He works for his money so that maybe some day he can get that little cabin. He snuck him and Lennie out of Weed and got them a new job. After Lennie kills Curley’s wife, Curley wants to him, instead of letting that happen George shoots Lennie himself, quick and painless. Lennie is a big strong guy, but he’s mentally challenged and sometimes he just doesn’t know what to do in situations. Lennie crushed Curley’s hand when Curley was beating on him, he just wouldn’t let go of it, he panic and crushed it. Then Curley’s wife wants Lennie to touch her hair so he does, then she starts telling him to let go so he panics and holds on, so she starts screaming and he shakes her and breaks her neck. George and Lennie were both just trying to work towards their dream, but because of one little accident their dream was crushed.

This theme is true, everyone has a dream life that they would like to live, but very few people actually accomplish this dream. In my dream life I want to be a Professional Poker Player, sure it could happen but it’s a lot more likely to not happen. You could ask anybody what their dream life is, and I guarantee your going to get an answer. It’s unfortunate that so many people don’t accomplish there dream but that’s just the way it goes. You should have a dream, it might not come true but you can try to get there.

John Steinbeck did a good job with this book, he entertained people, and he showed people that sometimes things don’t work out the way you had planned. The characters seem very realistic, the way he put his conversations, he made it so it was actually like some migrant workers from back then talking. The American dream is very hard to accomplish, and he defiantly showed that by making them come close and then making everything go wrong. Throughout the book George and Lennie are just trying to get that little piece of land and have nobody to answer to. “Of Mice and Men”, by John Steinbeck, showed that the American Dream is very tough to accomplish, even when you think you can do it, it might go away.

Mao was similar to Stalin because before they came to power they were both soldiers. They made a name for themselves as soldiers and they worked their way up to being the leaders of their countries. Mao had young people go out and destroy statues and artifacts of those of different beliefs. He punished those who did not follow the communist way, he would send them to labor camps, re-education programs, and self-criticism programs. Stalin believed in the communist way too. They both were in total power and no one could do anything about it because they were dictators.

Mao and Hitler were both different in the fact that Hitler was not a soldier and Mao as you know from the paragraph above was a soldier before coming to power. They were both very powerful. They both had their own way of punishing people. Hitler would kill more people than he would torture. Mao would torture people or he would put them in labor camps or he would also humiliate them for torture. They both became dictators.

Hunger

Hunger is a big issue all around the world today, and it is getting worse in many places. Many adults and children die a day from hunger, hundreds and even thousands. Millions are suffering from this, and why you might ask, well because of the lack of money in their countries. What is hunger? Hunger is a feeling that you experience when the glycogen level of the liver falls below a certain point, that is usually followed by an urge to eat.
Hunger has always been a huge problem throughout the history of man kind. Why not because the ones suffering don't want to eat, but simply because they didn't enough money to buy food. In some places the problem is not the people's fault but the countries because it is poor, or has a bad leader that doesn't care. In Guatemala almost half of the children under five years of age are chronically suffering from malnutrition. Sixteen percent suffer from acute malnutrition. I guarantee that these suffering people don't choose to be this way, if they could do something about it then they would but there is just nothing to be done.
Food wastage is a big thing throughout some parts of the world. In the United Kingdom, " a whopping 30 to 40% of food is never eaten." About 38 billion U.S. dollars worth of food is thrown away per year. In the U.S., 40-50% of all food ready for harvest never gets eaten. This causes not only financial problems but also environmental problems such as wasteful use of chemicals, waste of fuel for transportation which is also a big financial loss, and a lot of rotting food. This is all part of poverty, which is the wasting of food and money.
After reading Hunger it has made me realize how big of a deal hunger really is. So many people are suffering from this issue and so many people are doing nothing to help. Thankfully there are few that are pitching in but there needs to be more, and the country leaders need to do something for their starving people and help them out, it is somewhat their responsibility too. Hunger needs to be stopped, because it is killing off way to many people and it just isn't right for people to go hungry and die like that. I couldn't imagine starving to death and i don't know why more people aren't doing something about the situation. It needs to stop it has gone on for a very long time and i think its time for it to come to an end.

While many factors were a part of the Triangle Trade, the rapid growth in both supply and demand for new commodities was the largest motivating element. This time period may be best associated(partnered with) with economic developments, but it is impossible to analyze(closely look at) this period without considering the intense social impact that the Triangle Trade had on those involved. In truth, a full understanding can only be gained by appreciating(being thankful for) how economic and social factors(a piece to accomplishing something) impact each other in history.
